It’s all in your head

My first essay in English so don’t look at the grammar too much, TY ?

I started listening to this book a long time ago, maybe like a month or so. It was a book which I listened to only when I was climbing alone at the local climbing gym, and that is why it took so long for me to finish this book.

The author of the book, Russ, is an American songwriter who has made himself famous by writing and producing music. As far as I remember, he has been producing music for little under ten years, and the road that he has been through, is at least motivating. In his book “It’s all in your head”, he goes through his musical career, one by one. It was truly motivating to hear what kind of ups and downs he has experienced on his road of life.
Sometimes while listening to the book, it almost felt like he was talking about me and my life. That was also one thing that made his piece of work sound really relatable and easy to focus on.

These are 3 of the many lessons in this book that made me think about my career so far (and future) as a film-maker.
1. You need unwavering self-confidence in your vision if you want to reach your dreams.
2. Keep doing what you love, and success will come to you.
3. Belief and work are the only two secrets to accomplishing your biggest aspirations.

1. You need unwavering self-confidence in your vision if you want to reach your dreams.

Russ did not have any proof that he was going to become great. But he stayed confident in himself anyway, even through times when he was working on his music in his parents’ basement, and nobody was listening. To make your dreams a reality, you must act.

This visualizing your future thing is truly a habit which I am missing. I’ve always been pretty much live-in-the-moment guy and haven’t worried about the next week, month or year at all. Maybe it is time for me also to start visualizing future and things what I want to do when I grow up.

2. Keep doing what you love, and success will come to you.

Most people don’t really think about what they’re passionate about. We get caught up in limitations and fears of failing, so we never start. Society isn’t helping much either. Often the biggest critics of our craft are “realistic” friends and family.

This line from the book really hit me up. Sometimes I might be overthinking some ideas and it ends up on quitting or forgetting to do them. Many times has happened that when I’m brainstorming a storyline for a video, I’m getting caught up with the thought “naaah it won’t work”, and make it the safe way. Wonder how many good ideas has passed through my head but then just got to being forgotten.

3. Belief and work are the only two secrets to accomplishing your biggest aspirations.

You might watch professional sports like ice hockey and think they make it look easy. But what you don’t see is the hours of early mornings, frustrating practice sessions, and missed shots. Belief is important, but to grow and become great you must put in the work.

Belief is the easier probably the easier one of these two, but the work part is really where the magic happens. We had a feedback session at our Treenit this week, and there Lasse pointed out that me and Aapo should start thinking about the time after Team Academy. When I got home, I really started thinking that yeahohfuck what happens to our video-things after school?

I usually don’t like reading or listening this kind of “motivational lifestory” books, but this one was somewhat special. Maybe it was because the writer, Russ, had his very own style to write, or maybe it was because he was a musician. Usually, you get to touch only the surface of a musicians life, but this one dug deep.
